Abdul Nur Hakim, Jr. LCSW
September 5, 1964 - January 24, 2023

Abdul Nur Hakim, Jr. LCSW, 58, of Erie, PA passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at St.
Vincent Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born on September 5, 1964 in Erie, PA to the
late Abdul Nur Hakim, Sr. and June Marie Jaycox - Hakim.

He graduated from Academy High School in 1983, where he played football and was the captain of his wrestling team. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at Edinboro University in 1987 where he also played
football and was voted Homecoming King.

Upon graduation, Abdul enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country while traveling the world. Abdul earned his Certificate of Training for Air Assault School at Fort Hood and completed the Airborne Course at
Fort Benning. He was commissioned as a Major. He received a number of medals and citations for his bravery for serving his country including: a Bronze Star, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 5 Army Accommodation Medals, 2 Army Achievement Medals, a Humanitarian Service Medal, Parachute Badge, German Airborne Badge, and Expert Field Medical Badge. After a career in the military, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2000 earing his Master's Degree in Social Work and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

He was employed most recently at the Achievement Center of LECOM Health as the Family
Based Mental Health Program Director until he accepted a position with the Veteran's Administration in the Behavior Health Unit in 2020. He was a PTSD Outpatient Therapist and involved in the Whole Health Program providing Reiki healing to veterans. He was also the primary provider for EMDR.

Abdul was a beautiful soul and those who knew him were blessed to have him in their life. He
was a devout Muslim and lived out the tenets of the Islamic faith. Abdul was also known for his
love of good food, superheroes, sports, and spending time with family and friends. He was an
avid fan of Marvel/DC entertainment, Steeler's and college football, and enjoyed watching
movies. You could often find him at Books Galore picking up his favorite comics from his
mailbox.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his by his maternal grandparents – Rev.
Jerry W. Jaycox Sr, and Anna May Mayhew – Jaycox; two sisters Nuna Hakim and Mary Ann
Hakim.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sisters Safaarah (Warren) Hodges and Anna May
Hakim, niece June Hodges, great nieces Zyille Hodges and Jhnoveah Babby Ray Hodges, and
great nephews Dimetris Mercy Francis and Jayceon McClendon along with other relatives and
many good friends.

Relatives and friends may honor Abdul at the Pitts Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave., Erie, PA
16504 on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 10 am to 12 pm, with a service to follow. Interment
will be at Lakeside Cemetery.
