Anne Dean Smith, born May, 25, 1919, ascended to her heavenly home on May 20, 2021.  A native of Meridian, Mississippi, Mother Smith was the daughter of Rev. Jeff Joshua Campbell and Laura Huston Campbell. She was then raised by her step-mother, Mary Ann Calvert-Campbell, and was the last living sibling of 17.

Having lived in Mississippi, Indiana, and Washington D.C. Mother Smith moved to Erie, PA, in 1955 and joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in 1956. She served in various positions within the church, and was a certified lay counselor, a Sunday school for over 50 years, an Adult Advisor to the women's ministry, youth ministry, and one of the first female members to serve on the Trustee Board.

She attended Courtland College, Courtland, NY.  Worked for the state of Pennsylvania WIC Program as a Retail Store Coordinator for Erie and surrounding areas until she retired. She was appointed and served on the PA State Vendor Committee for Retail Stores in Harrisburg for three years and served as an instructor at O.I.C. in sales & restaurant practice in the early 1960s.  She also served the community as an Adult Advisor for the Youth Department of the N.A.A.C.P., volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the COVE Program of Erie County, and a member of the Committee for Equality & Justice.

In 2011, Mother Smith moved to Meadville, PA, and continued to work in ministry at St. John MFGBC and served as a Sunday school teacher, speaker at special events, member of the mother's board and eventually mother of the church.  During her time in Meadville, she was re-baptized by her son, Bishop Stanley K. Smith.  In March 2019, she moved to Richmond, VA, to live with her son, his wife and granddaughter.  Honors and Awards include numerous Certificates of Recognition & Appreciation, which are too many to mention.

Mother Smith was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Jeff J Campbell, mother, Laura Huston Campbell, and step mother Mary Calvert Campbell, 16 siblings: Arlena, Perlina, Joshuae, Leora, Richmond, Rose Ann, Julia, Earnest, Lemuel, May Bernice, Christine, Earma, Ethel Louise, Melverta, Odis, and Allie Mae. She is survived by her son: James McCall (Silver springs, MD), daughter: Jacqueline Smith (San Leandro, CA), and son Stanley K. Smith (Carla) (Richmond, VA), three granddaughters: Carlena, Ashley, and Hadassah, five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Her favorite scripture is Proverbs 3: 5-6.  She enjoyed life, and had a wonderful since of humor.  She had a brilliant mind, lived independently, wore heels up until her 99 ^th birthday, and was always impeccably dressed.  She loved her family and friends and made a tremendous impact on all who met her.  She made everyone feel special and was a wise confidant, counselor, teacher, and friend.  She is loved and will be seen again by those who know the Lord.
