Augusta, "Gus," Protho, 85, transitioned to his eternal home, on February 23, 2026. Born on March 16, 1940 in Richland, Georgia, He was the son of the late Leroy and Bertha Protho. He loved Georgia and often shared fond memories of growing up with his brothers and sister in the country.

Upon moving to Aliquippa in 1958, he was drafted into the United States Army. After serving his country, he returned home and began a thirty-year career as a security guard at J&L Steel. When the steel industry began to decline, Gus demonstrated his unmatched work ethic by taking a second job with FedEx, from which he retired in 2003. Throughout these years, he also honorably fulfilled his monthly duties in the United States Air Force Reserves for 18 years, ascending to the rank of master sergeant, reflecting his deep commitment to military service.

In 1971, Gus married the love of his life, Gina. Together, they built a strong family, raising two children, Pamela (Antoine) and Timothy. Known affectionately as "Pappy", he was a proud and loving grandfather to his seven grandchildren— Meridian, Malcolm, Noah, Olivia, Maliyah, Savannah, and Marleigh. He found immense joy in attending their basketball, soccer, and field hockey games, gymnastic meets, band concerts and dance performances, always seated front and center as their biggest fan.

Gus will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of the military, and his tireless work ethic.

He was preceded in death by siblings Leroy, Henry, Della Mae, Naphonia, and Ernest.

He is also survived by sisters-in-law Janet and Ruth; close family friend Elizabeth; and a host of nieces and nephews.
