Betty Ruth Torain Sumner, 66, of Erie, PA, passed away February 6, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born in Erie to the late Eddie and Geneva (Robinson, Moyer) Torain.

Betty was a graduate of East High School where she was the Captain of the cheerleaders. She was an outstanding athlete and enjoyed playing on her adult softball team, 'The Chosen Few'.  She furthered her education at Gannon, Erie Business Center and studied Art in Philadelphia. She retired from G.E. to become a full-time 'Nana Cheerleader'.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters Doris, Joann and Patricia Ann Torain. She is survived by her lifetime companion, Roy Johnson, her children Ericka and Jerred Torain as well as her brother, Edward "E.J." Torain  all of Erie. She also leaves four grandchildren, Torain "Tori" Spearman, Nadiya, Jayden and Justin all of Erie followed by her stepchildren Stephon Johnson (Marsha) of Erie and Daphne Sumner Ali of N. Augusta, SC. Also left to mourn are her niece Tameca Torain and nephews Bryan Torain and Emmanuel Lee along with plethora of extended family and friends.

*All CDC guidelines will be followed during services entrusted to and held at Pitts Funeral Home 2926 Pine Ave., Erie, PA 16504 on Thursday, February 11 ^th . Visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 pm followed immediately by a Celebration of Life eulogized by Bishop Dwayne Brock.
