Charles Childs, 91, of Aliquippa, was born in Americus, GA to Alene Clark and Stafford Childs on January 3, 1931. He went home to be with the Lord on January 20, 2022.

Charles "Sonny" Childs was a loving and dedicated husband and father, and an artistic soul with a passion for music.  Growing up, he graduated as the class valedictorian from A.S. Staley High School Americus, Georgia in 1949. Later that year, he traveled to Aliquippa to begin work.  Charles joined the Army in 1951 serving as an anti-aircraft radar operator until completing his service in 1954.  In 1959, he married his wife, Patricia Ann Brice.

Sonny loved music! He became a self-taught musician at fourteen. In high school, he played football and then played in the band at half-time. As a well-known saxophonist, he entertained all who came to listen. He learned to play a variety of instruments including: the alto, soprano, tenor and baritone saxophones, the flute and the clarinet. Admired by his fellow musicians, he was a member of five bands. He played for nineteen years with the Basic Sounds of Pittsburgh. One of the group's milestones was being the opening act for the Temptations. He was a member of Coffe's Love Trane until he was 90.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Darrell DeShazier, Atlanta, GA; a son, Charles Brice Childs, Maineville, OH; two granddaughters, Ricque Marie Childs, Columbus, OH; Darsan Aliyah DeShazier, DeLand, FL, a sister and brother-in-law Franchester & James Blocker, Bridgewater, PA; brother Donald Clark, Detroit, MI; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Childs, mother & step-father, Allene & Chester Clark, father, Stafford Childs, and sister, Marilyn Clark.
