Cora Harris, 104, of Aliquippa was born May 10, 1915.  She departed this life on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 10pm in the Concordia Health and Human Care Personal Care Home, Cabot, PA

She is the daughter of the late Charlie and Winniford Smith.  She was loving, caring and a very special woman who touched the hearts of many people.

Cora was a centenarian; a living, breathing, walking, talking time capsule.  A testament of decades of wisdom and faith.  She was born in Palmetto, Georgia and attended the WR Crodman School and the famous Booker T. Washington High School, which was the first school in Georgia for black people.  At the age of 19 or 20, she moved to Aliquippa, PA with relatives.  She later went on to marry Fred Harris, with whom she had two sons.  She was a legend in her own time; a loving wife, mother and a devoted, highly religious woman who lived by the Word of God.  She attended the Church in the Round and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and also served as a missionary in the church.

Cora lived through the Jim Crow era, a time when our country's laws separated people based on the color of their skin.  She had the distinction of being among the first black women to work in the steel mills making landing boats during World War II.  She was also one of few women in the early 40s and 50s to own real estate which was unusual for a black woman.  Known for her good looks, she possessed style and grace and loved to dress fashionably and wear her church hats.  She had an artistic ability to make crafts and taught children in the neighborhood how to become entrepreneurs, making various crafts to sell and make money to help their families.

Cora loved life and lived it to the fullest up until she took her last breath.  She was woman, phenomenally

Cora was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Harris.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Anthony Harris and William Harris, grandchildren; Latoya Harris- McDowell, Laterra Harris-Lassiter, Julian Harris, Jamera Harris, Jamica Harris, Jay Brianna Harris, Miracle Harris, a host of great grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces and other family members that loved her dearly.  She also leaves to cherish her memory a very dear and close friend, Susan Ozenich.
