Dr. Curtis Lewis

"There is a place in God I want to be and I won't stop until I get there." On Thursday, July 20, 2017, Dr. Curtis Lewis "arrived there" peaceably, to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Dr. Lewis served as an ordained Elder and the Minister of Music at the Church in the Round First Church of God in Christ, under the pastorate of Bishop Melvin E. Clark, Sr., for 55 years. Small in physical stature, Dr. Lewis stood as a musical giant extraordinaire. A legendary icon, he was known throughout the length and breadth of this country as a gifted vocalist, songwriter, composer, choir director, trainer and mentor to so many. He was Jurisdictional Minister of Music of the 2nd Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of PA, Historian and Director of the Heritage Singers (International Music Dept. of the Church of God in Christ Worldwide), inducted in the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and Beaver County Music Hall of Fame in 2009.

Dr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Theobra and Hazel Lewis; sisters, Bernice Wilson, Marie Newton and Flora Mae Lewis, and brothers, Theophus Lewis and Willie Lewis.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 53 years, Billye Priscilla; his five children, Carsetta (Danny) Lyles, Blake, Melva (D'Von Ricky) Massey, Curtis Eugene and Douglas; five grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Viewing will be Friday, July 28, 2017, from 12 noon to 6 p.m., followed by the Celebration of Life Musical at 7 p.m. The official homegoing service will be Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 12 noon. All services will be held at the Church in the Round, Woodrow & Griffith Streets, Aliquippa, Pa., officiated by Bishop Melvin E. Clark, Sr.
