DOROTHY M. DAVIS TYLER

Dorothy M. Davis Tyler, known as Mother Dorothy M. Tyler, 96, of Aliquippa and North
Sewickley Township was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday,
April 29, 2019. Mother Dorothy Tyler was the 13th of fourteen children born to the late Abraham and Lula
Davis on November 27, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA. She was married to the Elias S. Tyler on August
17,1947, also a WWII Veteran until he went home to be with The Lord in 2004. And to that
union, God Blessed them with two children: a daughter, Darselle "Dee" Tyler Patillo and a son,
the late Elias S. "Ike" Tyler, Jr. Mother Tyler was a soldier in the Army of The Lord and in the United States Army Women
Air Corp during World War II and honorably discharged in 1946.
A born-again, Holy Ghost filled woman of God and a faithful servant of Holy Spirit Fellowship
Church, New Brighton where she served on the Mother's Board, Willing Working Women, and
Faithfully attended Sunday School, Wednesday Bible Study, and Friday Morning Prayer under
the pastorship of her God-son, Rev. Oshea Vreen, Jr. and Rev. Avril Vreen, Founder and Sr.
Pastor. She last attended Resurrection Sunday 2019 to see her grandsons' performance in the
Easter Program. And a Satellite Member of From The Heart Church Ministries, Suitland, MD
under Episcopal Pastor, Bishop John H. Cherry, II.

She is survived by her daughter, Dee Patillo; eight grandchildren; seventeen great
grandchildren; six great great grand children. She is fondly called Grand Grand by the little ones
and remembered by others as Grandma Tyler. By trade, she retired as a beautician and was well known as the best press & curl hairdresser in
the area. She also was a Child Care Worker with Allegheny County Children & Youth Services
and the Catholic Diocese.
She along with her husband, Elias was a foster parent for over twenty-five years to so many
children in Beaver and Allegheny Counties.
She began church work in 1952 at Christian lighthouse Church, Kodesh Church of Immanuel,
Aliquippa. A graduate of Harty Bible School; a former Sunday School Superintendent and a
dedicated church missionary. She was influential in organizing the Miracle Church of God In
Christ, Aliquippa under the late Pastor Dr. David A. Armstead; organized Junior Church of the
Church In The Round, Aliquippa under Bishop Melvin E. Clark, Sr. and also coordinated diligently
many Prayer Breakfasts for Bishop Clark's wife and First Lady, Melessie "Little Mama" E. Clark.
And was a sincere servant of Deliverance Temple Church of God In Christ, Aliquippa under the
pastoreship of Elder James Watkins and her niece and First lady, Evangelist Addie Davis
Watkins. Her service for The Lord continued with her faithfully working at Sound The Alarm
Ministries, Aliquippa under Pastors Richard & Vera Shymoniak.

One of her proudest accomplishments was obtaining her GED at the age of 54. And she
attended several classes at Community College of Beaver County.

She organized the first Adult Night School Program at the former Jones Elementary School,
Aliquippa; the former chairman ofthe first Aliquippa Jr. High School PTA.
And she continued serving her community with her husband, Elias when they founded The
Tyler Youth Group, Inc., a non-profit, 501 (C) (3) community based organization; the Aliquippa
Tyler Community Center; and the Tylerette Marching Drill Team for the youth and families in
our community. Mother Tyler has received many acknowledgements and numerous accolades for her work in
her church and her community. She received a Congressional Tribute ofthe 101st Congress,
First Session 1990 and a Recipient of the Community Champions & Jefferson Award in 2008.
One person can make a difference and that's what Dorothy Davis Tyler did with her life, serve
her God and her community. When she was not taking care of her family or serving in her church or community, she
enjoyed singing and composing music; waterskiing; RVering with her husband across the US
when he retired. One of the many songs that she composed is "Our American Flag".
Her journey to be with The Lord, was also preceded by her sister, Thelma "Betsy" Davis
Burrow; five brother, Garfield, Robert, Andrew, John, Julius Davis; son-in-law, Teola "Tee"
Patillo, Jr.; twin grandsons, Taylor and Tyler Patillo.
The family is extremely grateful for the kind and loving care extended to her by the staff
at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System; Heritage Valley Health System Beaver; and Good
Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley Beaver.
Grandma Tyler leaves to cherish her memory her natural, spiritual, and extended family
members, including daughters Dee, Ida Allen & Family; Latrece Rowell & Family. Nieces: Rev.

EITyna McCree & Family; Rev. Avril Vreen & Family; Lanette Simmons; Belinda Miller & Family.
Great Niece Amber Simmons Barnes & Family.
Her loving Davis, Watkins, Moreland Family and her Pittsburgh Tyler Family. God-son Rev.
