Ernest Lewis Evans

Ernest Lewis Evans of Millcreek, entered into eternal rest on July 6, 2023. He was born January 25, 1962, in Erie, PA. son of the late Joe Louis McNair and Mary Nell Henderson. Ernest was a 1980 graduate of the Academy High School and a 1982 graduate of the J.H. Thompson Barbering School. He was employed by the City of Erie, as an Heavy Equipment Operator for 31 years, until his retirement in 2020.

He was a lifetime member of the Holy Trinity C.O.G.I.C. and recently a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church, both in Erie. Ernest was a faithful man who loved the Lord, his family, church and community. He enjoyed camping, cooking, fishing, and coaching Track & Field. Ernest was an avid Raiders fan.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Elder Eddie B. Evans and one sister, Gloria Nell Henderson.

Ernest Lewis leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 29 years, Lydia M. Curry-Evans, three daughters, Sasha L. Curry-Ruiz, Sade(Stephen) Lallman and Maricia(Walter) Smith Jr. Three brothers, Willie(Mary) Henderson, Joseph Evans and Greg(Kim) Goodwine of Bay City, Michigan.  Four sisters, Debra Ann(Pete) Hudges, Joanne Goodwine and Artisher Goodwine both of Saginaw, Michigan and Vernita McCray of Atlanta, GA; sister in law Marion Curry Morgan - Gayle (Elman).

Beloved grandchildren, Lyndon Wasani and Saniyah Isieny Ruiz whom he was helping to raise and loved dearly. One godson, David Earl Gillespie. Eight additional grandchildren. One uncle, Robert Frank(Julie) McNair, and one aunt, Mary Alice Henderson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends may call upon Morning Star Baptist Church, on Saturday, July 15th beginning at 10am until the time of service at 12pm. Interment will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements are being entrusted to the Pitts Funeral Home of Erie, PA.
