Evanuel peacefully made his transition on January 27, 2021 with his loving family by his side.

He was born November 6, 1945 in Macon, MS to the late Pecola Duck Tate and Henry Lee Tate. He was the second child born out of nine to this union.

He moved to Erie as a teenager after living with his Grandfather (Vince Duck, Sr.). He was a very good natured, mild mannered individual. Evanuel AKA "Chicken" (nicknamed after his grandfather George Tate, Sr.) accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of First Good Samaritan AME Zion Church.

"Chicken" worked for The City of Erie Streets Department for some years. He also lived in Atlanta, GA and Brooksville, MS through the years where he held several constructions jobs.

Chicken enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved his family very much.  He liked traveling to the reunions and attending the Family Fun Days, where he would perform for the family.

He had a passion for music and loved to sing Gospel. He sang with the Golden Bells Quartet of Erie and the Men's and Gospel choirs at church. In his earlier years he was a member of a family group "The TateTations", consisting of his cousins. He performed at numerous events including the Erie Jazz and Blues Festival and Celebrate Erie Festivals. He also sang with The East Side Edition Band, Breeze Band, Eturnity Band of New York City and other groups around the country.

Besides his parents Chicken was preceded in death by three sons, infant Everett Earl Tate, Jarred Smith and Antwan Cooper; two sisters Hazel Tate Joiner and Lauretta Tate Williams and infant brother Henry Lee Tate, Jr.,

He leaves to cherish his memory four sons Evanuel Tate, Jr., Oesya Tate, LaKevius Tate, Roshard Tate; two daughters Ebony Tate Pruzenski (Robert), Hatisha Tate of San Antonio, TX; one brother Renely Tate, Sr. (Deana); four sisters Carol Tate Hooks (Leon), Marjorie Tate Hollingsworth, Delores Tate Alston (Antonio) Brooklyn, NY; Joyce Tate Whitt, Amherst, NY; 22 grandchildren; God-daughter Lafarrah Gambill; two brother-in-law's Christopher Williams and Fred Joiner of Gary, IN; and a host of nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Friends may visit with the family at First Good Samaritan AME Zion Church, 3209 Pennsylvania Ave, on Friday, February 5, 2021, from 6pm -9pm. A home going celebration will be on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 11 am, with Rev. Amos Goodwine eulogizing. Interment will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens. Professional services are entrusted to Pitts Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave, Erie, PA 16504. All CDC guidelines will be followed and everyone must wear a mask.
