Gary Dean Johnson, 61, of St. Petersburg Florida passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023.  He was born on August 12, 1962 in Erie PA to the late Carolyn Ruth Johnson-Moffett.

Gary is a  1981 graduate of McDowell High School, but his pride and joy was the three prior years he spent at Academy High School.  At an early age, committed his life to service by joining the United States Army and then the United States Air Force where he served for 18 years.  Soon after his service to our country, he was employed at the Bay Pines Veterans Affairs Healthcare System in St. Petersburg Fla.

Gary or 'Dino' as he was affectionally known, enjoyed listening to music, watching sports, eating all kinds of sweets and hanging out with family and friends.

In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Tommy Lee Johnson and Willie Etta Strickland-Johnson; his Godmother, Lila Price and his sister Carroll Ann 'Sissy' Moffett.

He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Tiona Johnson of Atlanta, Ga., one brother, Chet (Mary) Moffett, of Erie Pa; two sisters, Marci Moffett of Boston, Ma., and Yvonne (Bobby) James of Raleigh, NC; five nephews: Malik Moffett, Bobby James II., Tommy Moffett-Clanton, Novian James and K'Marley James; two nieces, Lela Moffett-Clanton, Nia Bowers-Pickens; and his long time significant other, Lynda Lord, Tampa, Fla.

Friends may visit with the family at Second Baptist Church, 757 East 26th Street on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 11:00am to 12:00pm, where a Homegoing celebration will immediately follow, with Reverend Duane Hunter eulogizing.  Professional services are entrusted to Pitts Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Avenue, Erie, Pa 16504
