Genevieve L. Freeman was born to the late Anna Mae McManus on October 17, 1940, in Sewickley, Pa.  She peacefully transitioned to her Heavenly Home on October 3, 2023.  Genevieve, affectionately known as "Littlebit" was a vibrant,strong woman with a zeal for life.

Genevieve graduated from Quaker Valley High School in 1958.  She then attended Sewickley Valley School of Nursing to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.  Later in life, she enrolled and completed courses at the Community College of Beaver County becoming a Registered Nurse where she was 1 of 4 of the first African American women to do so.  She was an excellent nurse who worked at Aliquippa Hospital and several others in the Pittsburgh area.

Genevieve loved the Lord and enjoyed singing in the church and workshop choirs but especially enjoyed singing with the Freeman Family choir surrounded by her children and grandchildren. In her spare time, she was an avid bowler with many trophies and awards, traveling to tournaments across the country.  Her other hobbies were playing cards, bingo, knitting and crocheting, Sudoku puzzles and sewing.

At the center of her life was her abundant love for her children, Vernice Norman James, Anne Freeman Ainsbury, Joe Freeman Jr., Nicole Freeman, Kevin Freeman Sr. and Dr. Holly Pope, her 23 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.  As an extension of her love, she nurtured and raised her granddaughter, Kristen Rae Freeman.

Genevieve's memory will forever be cherished by her brother, Ronald McManus and sister-in-law Christine, of Sewickley, her cousin and travelling companion Gertrude Gist of Sewickley, lifelong friends Carol Kimbrough of Aliquippa, Joe Freeman Srof Aliquippa and Bernice King of Beaver Falls, family friend Craig Smith of Aliquippa, daughter -in- laws, Angela Freemanof Ambridge, Candylyn Freeman of Aliquippa, son -in- law, Greg James of Pittsburgh and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother Anna Mae McManus, grandmother, Genevieve Morris, and brother, Joseph McManus all from Sewickley.

Genevieve was a driving force who changed so many lives with her strength.
