Gerald Trent Dawkins, 71, of Smyrna, GA passed away August 15, 2026 at UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh PA. Born on April 19th 1955 in Steubenville, OH.  Gerald was the cherished son of the late Thomas and WONZA Dawkins.

A proud graduate of Aliquippa Senior High School, Class of 1973, Trent lived a life marked by independence, determination, service, humor and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. After high school, Trent went on to serve for our country in the United States Marine Corps. His courage, leadership and commitment earned the respect of his fellow soldiers and all who knew him. Transitioning to civilian life, Trent worked as a sand blaster, teacher's aide and other various construction projects. He was excellent with his hands and could teach anyone how to physically obtain certain goals. Trent was full of wisdom and delved into politics more than the average politicians themselves. Beyond his military service, Trent was a devoted grandson to the late Willie and Kathleen Dawkins an adored nephew to the late Ella Ree Thomas and surviving aunt Barbara Jean Lipscomb.

Trent had a heart of gold, an uplifting spirit and cloak of armor disguised as dark humor. He definitely found humor in all things. Trent had a knack for his unmatched wit and comical antics at times. A silver lining of sorts would always seem to come across while in his presence. He loved good food and great music.  He was a cigar connoisseur and a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Beyond the simple pleasures in life, Trent later found love with Blanche Lowe and fathered two wonderful children whom he adored and lived to protect with all he was and every breath he took. He was a devoted father who had instilled great values in his children that helped shape and mold the great beings they've come to be. He made sure that they understood human behaviors and prepared them for the ills of the world that we reside in today.

He leaves behind cherished moments, heartfelt pleasantries, a legacy of love, strength and selflessness that will continue to inspire generations to come. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his only son, Willie Edward Dawkins on August 21, 2022 and his sister Genise Fisher on March 4, 2026.

He is survived by his daughter Dabrielle Dawkins, three grandchildren; Jermauri Thompson, Khy'La and Jaceon Dawkins, siblings; Misty Yates, Crystal Walker, Billy Dawkins, Ricky Dawkins, Troy Dawkins and Daryl Dawkins, devoted nephew; Lamarr Kimble of Phil., PA and devoted cousin, Michael Thomas of AK and a host of extended family, dear friends, his military family and brothers-in-arms.
