Gloria Dean Wilbon Pope went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 25,2023 in Charlotte, NC.  She was born in Aliquippa, PA on October 23,1930 to the late Manor and Pearl Wilbon.

Gloria was a graduate of Aliquippa High School, where she majored in the Secretarial Program and was part of the Griffith Heights softball team, the Honey Dippers.  A skilled typist and stenographer, Gloria was employed as a secretary at Griffin Heights Social Service Agency, a Clerk Typist at the Beaver County Courthouse Register of Wills office and a Para-legal Senior Advocate at Neighbor Legal Services in Aliquippa.  She was married on April 21,1951 to the Late James Pope Sr.

In 1963 Gloria accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and began a sixty-year commitment to salvation and holiness.  This commitment included the study of the word of God and various aspects of service in the local church.  These included Child Evangelism Training, Licensed Evangelist Missionary in the Church of God in Christ and a member of the mother's board.  Additionally, she graduated from Harty Bible School,   where she  taught for many years and eventually became the Dean of the Aliquippa Branch.  Gloria was a very accomplished woman who achieved all these professional milestones while being a mother, wife and fully employed.  She possessed keen intelligence, a sharp wit and an endearing sense of humor. In addition to being a devoted member of her church, she was also a philanthropist, believing that to whom much is given, much is required. Monthly, she shared of her income with various missions and charities.  Throughout her community, she was recognized as a true servant of the Lord and she was respected by those, within her community, young and old.   She was a member of the Church in the Round, Pastor Bishop M. E Clark, Aliquippa, Pa.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband James F. Pope, Sr. and three daughters, Roxanne Pope (Wash. D.C), Deborah Smith (Indianapolis, IN), and Gillette Pope (Atl. GA). Her memory will be cherished by her daughter Nancina Pope-Hammie (Antonio) and one son, James Pope Jr. (Jennifer) Aliquippa, PA.  7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren as well as a host of relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the family at Church in the Round COGIC ,444 Griffith Street on Saturday Feb. 4,2023 from 10 am to 11 pm, where a home going celebration will immediately follow.  Interment will be Woodlawn Cemetery.  Professional services are entrusted to Pitts Funeral Home, Aliquippa, PA 15001.
