Gwen A. Galloway's Obituary
Gwendolyn A. Galloway, age 71, of Erie, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at
home surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Gwen was born on March 30, 1946 in Columbia, TN, to the late William and Georgia "Mama
Pearl" Hayes. She graduated from Craver Smith High School in 1964 (Columbia, TN) and
earned a Bachelorette Degree in Business Education Administration from Lane College in 1968
(Jackson, TN).
She has been a faithful member of St. James A.M.E. Church and secretary for the last 43 years.
Ms. Galloway has devoted her life to helping others in the community as a selfless servant to
Jesus Christ. Gwen loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and traveling in her free time.
After moving to Erie, PA, She began her career in 1972 as an educator with the Erie School
District. Ms. Galloway was currently the Director of Administrative Services at Community
Health Net (CHN). She began her service at CHN over 25 years ago.
Ms. Galloway is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (DST), Inc. Beta Chi Chapter, and one
of the founding members of the Erie Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and
recently honored for over 50 years of DST sisterhood. Gwen has served on the St. James
Women's Missionary Society, Steward Board, Social Action Chairperson, National Association
of Medical Staff Services, International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP),
Martin Luther King Center Board of Directors, Erie Bayfront Ballet Auxiliary, and Lane College
National Alumni Association.
Gwen is survived by her children: Stephen Galloway of Los Angeles, Calif., Lenita (Galloway)
Patton of Memphis, Tenn., and Scot Galloway, Sr. of Erie. Son-in- law Andre Patton, and
daughter-in- law Rebecca Galloway. A sibling Deborah Hayes of Columbia, Tenn. She also
leaves seven grandchildren, Joshua and Jordan Patton of Memphis, Tenn, Scot Galloway, Jr.,
Trey Galloway and Roman Galloway of Erie, Aaliyah Lucas of Erie, and Jasmyne Grady of Erie
and many cousins, and close friends who are considered family.
Friends are invited to call on the family on Tuesday July 25th with the Omega Omega Service
conducted by the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Erie Alumnae Chapter at 4 p.m.,
viewing hour from 5 p.m. until the start of the service at 6 p.m. at Saint James A.M.E. Church,
236 East 11 th Street, Erie, PA 16503. Presiding Elder Reverend Dr. Brown of Pittsburgh, PA will
preside over the service with Reverend Cheviene Jones of Atlanta, GA as the Eulogist.
Funeral arrangements under the direction of Pitts Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave, Erie, PA 16504.
