Lennie Mae (Mary) Alston, 94 of Aliquippa PA, transitioned peacefully on Sunday, March 14, 2021.

She was born on June 3, 1926 in Reynolds, GA to the late Curtis and Mittie (Worthy) Peebles.

Married to the late William Frank (Sonny) Alston, Sr in 1945 Lennie moved to Aliquippa PA, where she became a faithful member of The Holy Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, under the late Reverend William Harris. Lennie served in the junior and senior choirs, usher, and nursing ministries.  She later held the offices of senior choir president and chaplain. Lennie loved attending Bible study, prayer meetings and Sunday school.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Elma Peebles, Rachel Lowe (Heinz), Charlie Peebles (Bertha), Curtis Peebles, Robert Peebles (Azielee), and Asa Peebles (Charity), dear friend Eleanor Perry and her eldest son, Retired Chief William (Bill) Frank Alston, Jr in 2008.

Lennie (Ms. Mary) was affectionately known by many in her community where she served as a member of the Aliquippa Ushers Union and Helping Hands Charity Club and a mother to all. She was a Girl Scout  Leader and Poll Worker for the Beaver County Board of Elections for many years. She enjoyed baking, gardening, embroidery and reading her Bible. She was known for her "from scratch Caramel Cake."

Lennie was a homemaker and worked as the lead cook for the Head Start program at Jones School in Aliquippa. She enjoyed cooking homemade southern meals for the children and staff.

Lennie leaves to cherish her memory and carry forth her legacy of faith, family, and community:

Two daughters, Belinda Gale (Bedford-deceased), Venita Alston Crawford; three sons, Lawrence (Janese), Donald (Jacqueline) and Michael (Rosalind) and daughter in law, Phyllis Alston

Eleven grandchildren, Lawrence Alston Jr, Tameka Alston; Phillip Holmes; William Frank Alston III (Kadi); Alonzo Alston (Anna Yanosko); Brandi Williams (Ray-Michael, Sr); Dawn Grant (Willie Cie); Joelle Alston; Justin Alston; Jawaan (Fiancé Iyeshia Carper), Rachel Crawford and Stephanie Crawford.

Twenty-six great grandchildren: Larquawn Alston, Daschon Alston, Daiquon Alston, LaQuia Alston, Davon Alston, Isaiah Alston, Jasmine Williams, Kestini Alston, Onyx Alston, Braeden Grant, Mikah Alston, Tatum Alston, Mackenzie Grant, Jaelyn Alston, Ray-Michael Williams Jr, Keyon Alston, Ayden Alston, Sabrina Holmes, Marley Grant, Charles Alston, Milani Grant, Arius Alston, Amara Grant, Aniyah Alston, Elin Alston, Ashanko Alston

One great-great grandchild: Nazir Alston and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends

Viewing will take place at Triedstone Baptist Church, 505 Washington Street, Aliquippa PA on Friday, March 19 from 6 to 8 pm

Due to gathering restrictions and to maintain social distancing, the homegoing service will be private and take place on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 12 noon with Reverend James Williams eulogizing.

Service will be livestreamed.

Private Entombment will follow, Woodlawn Cemetery, Aliquippa PA
