"I was given the gift of life, and now I have given it back. This is hard but I was a blessed woman, who led a blessed existence of 98 years, and for this I am grateful."

Louise Shaw Carr age 98, passed away on June 10, 2020 at UPMC Hamot Hospital.  She was born on January 2, 1922 in Paulding, Mississippi to the late Jacob and Annie Fowler Shaw.    She became an Erie resident in the early 1950's.

Louise was a Renaissance woman who held many occupations in the hospitality field.  She was well known for being an excellent cook. Louise had compassion for the elderly, and had an open door policy for anyone in need; she made sure all those around her were never hungry.  She joined and was baptized at Christ Temple Baptist Church in Erie, PA.  She later became a member of Mount Ebal Baptist Church and enjoyed attending services whenever she could.  She was very family oriented and was always excited to see her growing family.  She will be remembered for her loving, caring, compassionate and fierce spirit.  She surely will be missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ed Lee Brown, step mother Lizzie Shaw,  brothers John Wesley (Buster), John William (Cooter) and sisters Martha, Tiny,  great granddaughter Taylor, great- great granddaughters Nyomi Harden and Destiny Barnett.

She is survived by one son James Henry Brown (Maggie), 6 grandchildren, Willie, David, Lisa (Jimmy), Jimmy Lee (JoAnn), Louise, Lee, 26 great children and 49 great- great grandchildren, special caretaker and friend Nikky Dean and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
