Marvin Terrell Jones Sr. entered into eternal rest on August 27, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

God blessed earth with Marvin on April 23, 1968 through his parents Carrie M. (Betty Jones) Knight and the late Harvey L. Knight.

Marvin was educated in the Erie school district and graduated from Tech Memorial High school, class of 1986 where he was an exceptional basketball player. Upon graduation, Marvin enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country on the USS Okinawa, in the Persian Gulf.

God's word was imparted into Marvin's life at an early age. He was ordained as a deacon in the Lord's church on March 14, 2021 at the Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Danny Stanton. He was currently serving as a deacon at Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Jesse N. Gavin. Marvin was a weekly intercessor and prayer warrior on the Jones Family Prayer Line.

"Messy Marv" as he was affectionately called was a pillar in his community. He was never without a positive word for anyone who would listen. His laughter and smile were contagious. His faith and strength were to be admired. Marvin loved to go fishing, write poems, read and study the Bible, and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

Whatever his hands found to do, he did so in a way that only "Messy" could. He was a DJ, Owner and Operator of E&M Fashions, Humble Hands of Peace LLC, and King of the Fish Fry. Marvin was lastly employed at the Erie Housing Authority until his health declined.

Marvin was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elizabeth Jones, who was instrumental in his upbringing; Great grandmother Bertha Jones; Paternal Grandparents Eddie & Betty Knight; and uncle James L. Jones.

Left to carry Marvin's legacy are his loving mother, Carrie (Betty) Knight; his only sister Carla S. Barnes and her husband Michael; the Kings and Queens of his tribe as he called them, Takisha Mathis, Andre Jones, Steven Deboe, Latifah Russell, Dashara Carson, Valyncia Coleman, Myciah Hughes, Martrel Glover, Jamaica Jones,  Marvin T. Jones Jr., D'Auzhanay Harden, and Keyzhawn Harden; Bonus Queen Carleasha Knight; his significant other Adrienne Harden; 29 grandchildren; aunts Mother Lucille Jones and Dorothy Jones of Chicago, IL; his aunts/sisters Carmella Jones and Mella Lofton with whom he was raised;  Special Aunts Bertha Carson and Esker Gore; Special cousin Laurica Johnson, nieces Jasmine Johnson & Paige Collins and 4 great nephews.  Brothers for life Richard Jones, Patrick Barnett,  Mark Knight Sr; Favorite Cousins Tony Jones, Shantel, John, & Thomas Jones; Best Friends Gary (Groovy) Williams, Mitch Jones, Greg (GP) Page, Frederick (Nussy) Cooper, William (Peanut) Morrow, Navarro Chester, Michael Williams, Nate Overton. God-siblings Angie Pou-Tate, Mario Williams, Jaree Owens, and Krytisha Overton. Additionally he will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, GCFGBC family, and friends near and far that he loved dearly..

"You have fought the good fight, you have finished your course, you have kept the faith!"

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday September 5, 2024 from 5pm until 8pm at Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2624 German St Erie, PA 16504. A celebration of life will be held on Friday September 6, 2024, 10am-12pm viewing with service at 12 noon at Greater Calvary FGBC with Elder Colin Gavin eulogizing. Interment will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Professional arrangements are entrusted to Pitts Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave Erie, PA 16504. Service will be livestreamed on Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church Facebook and YouTube pages.
