Mary Lovell Codey

Mary Lovell Cooley departed this life on April 1, 2026, at UPMC Hamot.
Born on June 25, 1941, in Laurel, Mississippi, Mary was the cherished daughter of the late Ida
Jean Johnson Watson and Eldra James Cooley. She carried with her a lifelong strength and
resilience, qualities she shared generously with everyone fortunate enough to know and love
her.

Family and Legacy

Mary's life was defined by her devotion to her family. She has now been reunited with her
beloved son, Michael Anthony Cooley, who preceded her in death in November 2025. She was
also a loving stepmother to Michael Barnes (Carla). Her legacy of grace and strength continues
through her treasured granddaughter, Ida Michelle Cooley, who remained her source of pride
and joy.

A Life of Service

A woman of profound work ethic and compassion, Mary dedicated many years of service to
Pleasant Ridge Manor until her retirement. She also spent many years working closely with the
Kramer family, forming bonds that extended far beyond the workplace into a cherished, lifelong
friendship.

Faith and Fellowship

A pillar of her community, Mary was a faithful member and "Mother of the Church" at
Community Missionary Baptist Church. Whether serving as a Sunday School teacher or offering
a quiet word of encouragement, her presence enriched the lives of her congregation. Her
unwavering faith was the compass by which she lived, embodying humility and grace in all she
did.

Those Who Cherish Her Memory

Mary leaves to honor her memory a loving family, along with special friends Deacon Willie and
Deaconess Barbara Hopkins, and Jackie Stovall, as well as a host of extended family and dear
friends.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the medical teams at UPMC Hamot, Encompass,
and LECOM for the compassionate care provided to Mary in her final days.
