Mary Lee Jones Simmons, 97, affectionately known as "Madea" was at her residence, 1722 German Street, Erie, PA when she was ushered into eternal life, escorted to the bosom of Christ by her Heavenly angels Patricia and Annette on Monday July 12, 2021.

Madea was born in Laurel, Mississippi on September 14, 1923 to the late Chris & Mary Pugh Jones.

She was united in holy matrimony to George Simmons who proceeded her in death.

She accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Mt. Ebal Baptist Church, Rev. Timothy Ward.

She was a member of the Missionary Department & the Sunday School Department. She was a member of Ozeil Temple #317, the City-Wide Missions and a faithful supporter of WERG.

Madea retired from UPMC, formerly known as Hamot Hospital after 30+ years. After retirement she enjoyed volunteering at the Hamot Neo-Natal Unit.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was proceeded in death by her two daughters, Patricia Jones and Annette Simmons, her siblings, Percy Jones, Vera Jones Bagley, Dumas Jones and Mildred Jones.

Mary Lee is survived by her daughter, Linda Diane Johnson of Erie, eight grandchildren, Maurice (Patricia) Jones, Dallas, TX, Marshall Jones, Atlanta, GA, Monique, Michael, Melissa & Monica Jones of Erie, Cynthia Jonson and Jamiee Smith of Erie. 22 great grandchildren, 40 great, great grandchildren, one great, great, great grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family is thankful for the care and support given by Roxanne Robinson and Nakeitha Moss.

Friends may visit with the family at Second Baptist Church, 757 East 26 ^th Street, Erie, PA on Monday July 19 ^th from 5pm to 8pm, where a home going celebration will take place on Tuesday, July 20 ^th at 11am.
