Today, we gather with heavy hearts but grateful spirits to celebrate the life of Matthew Smith, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Matthew was born on October 11, 1965, and on July 9, 2026, he answered God's call and entered into eternal rest.
Although our hearts ache with his absence, we find comfort in knowing that his life was a blessing to so many. Matthew's journey on this earth was marked by kindness, laughter, and a genuine love for the people around him. His presence brought warmth to every room, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Matthew was preceded in death by his loving parents, Juanita and Tom Lewis, and his cherished sisters, April Lewis and Lynn Lewis. While we grieve their absence together, we take comfort in believing that they have been joyfully reunited.

He leaves behind a legacy of love through his devoted daughter, Dorecca Wilson, and his precious granddaughter, Ari Wilson, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He is also survived by his loving brothers, Zapulla Lewis, Timothy Lewis, Jeff Alfred Lewis, and Vernon Gore. Matthew also leaves to cherish his memory his beloved aunts, Lavinia Morris, Charlotte Adams, and JoAnne Smith, all of Youngstown, Ohio.
In addition to his immediate family, Matthew leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were made richer because of his love, kindness, and unforgettable spirit. Among those who held a special place in his heart were his dear friends Tyshon Tyson, Shepherd Pope, Andre Stevenson, Leslie Owensby, Andre Lindsey and Anthony Adamson. Their friendship was a source of strength, laughter, and lasting memories throughout the years.

Anyone who knew Matthew knew they could always count on hearing one of his silly jokes or that unmistakable, quirky laugh that could make others laugh right along with him. He had a way of lifting spirits, even on difficult days, simply by being himself. Beneath his playful personality was a compassionate man with a heart of gold—someone who genuinely cared for others and never hesitated to offer kindness, encouragement, or a helping hand.

While we mourn the loss of his physical presence, we celebrate a life that touched so many. The love he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the memories he created will forever remain etched in our hearts. Though his voice is now silent, his legacy of love lives on in each person who was blessed to know him.
