Melford Kendall Johnson (Mel), 51, departed this life Wednesday, December 9, 2020, two days short of his birthday. Surrounded by family and friends, Mel succumbed to a non-COVID related aggressive, systemic infection.

The only child of the late Cathy Janelle Johnson and a son of David Myers of Aliquippa, Melford grew up in Aliquippa with his beloved late grandmother, Gladys Mann Johnson. He moved to Tampa, Florida in his teen years, and returned to Aliquippa to earn a high school equivalency diploma. Starting his life, he moved to Richmond, Virginia. From there, he enrolled in the Job Corps program in 1985 earning a certificate in Essential Plumbing.

Mel returned to Aliquippa and developed a life with his late, beloved companion, Michelle Price. Following her passing, he joined New Wave Conference COGIC pastored by his uncle, Pastor Asbury T. Johnson. In 2017, Mel made a commitment to Jesus Christ. He attended the Conference through 2019.

An avid college football fan, Mel's favorite team was the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He also loved Lifetime Movies and reading the newspapers. With a quirky sense of humor, his uncle recalls that as a child, Mel was frightened by a dream that he was an apple! And somebody bit him!

He leaves to cherish his memory, his only child, Majesta Monique Janelle Johnson and 3 grandsons; siblings Brittany Myers, David Myers, Leonard Myers (Leyonda) and Davida Myers. Also, best friend, Steve Gordon and friends Brandy Price Hines and Adrienne Jeter. Plus, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family was serviced by Pitts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. of Aliquippa, PA. Interment was at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester, PA.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
