Minister Shon D. Owens Sr. 54, of Center Township, departed this life on Friday, May 26, 2023, with complications from a rare form of pneumonia at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Shon was born on September 12, 1968, in Aliquippa PA, to Ms. Ada Crumb and Mr. Shelton Jones. He was raised by his mother and stepfather Gershon Humphries.

Shon graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1986. Shon has a Bachelor of Theology from Bradley Bible College an extension of International College of Bible Theology, Ministry Diploma from Ministry Training School, Leadership Development Diploma from the U.S. Army War College, and was a Certified Life Coach. Shon also held many certificates such as, PMP Project Management, Fatherhood Engagement, 24/7 Dad program, and Manhood Development/Culturally Responsive to name a few. He was also a Navy Veteran and served during Desert Storm.

Shon was most known for his community activist work and often referred to as the Mayor of Beaver County. Shon worked at the Franklin Center of Beaver County as the Director of the Men & Boys Initiatives for over 15 years. His main project that he founded there was the Aliquippa Council of Men & Fathers. He also founded many other community organizations: IDAC (Inclusion, Diversity, Awareness Council) BCCLEC (Beaver County Community and Law Enforcement Coalition), WATCH D.O.G. (Dads on Guard), and M.A.L.E.S. (Maturing, Achieving, Learning, and Empowering Self) to mention a few. Shon additionally formed many community events such as the Beaver County Unity Games, Unity Prayer of Beaver County, The Father's Heart Award, and was a founding member of Undivided in Christ. He also formed the 1st Beaver County Unity Walk in June 2020 in Beaver, PA which cable network Alex Witt of MSNBC broadcasted live. Shon also co-founded SJO OutReach and SJO Cares with his wife. Shon held several board positions such as Leaders Serving Beaver County, Beaver County Community Services Program Advisory Board, and Family Group Decision Making Advisory Council amongst many more. He was also in the 1st graduation class of the Leadership Beaver County Cohort. Shon also currently has a conference room named after him at Beaver County Head Start.

Although Shon didn't care about the accolades, he humbly received many awards such as the 2020 Citizen of the Year Award of Beaver County, Martin Luther King Celebration Community Service Award, Christ's Kingdom Ministry Center Most Influential African American in the City of Aliquippa, PA  Award, Black Male Engagement Award, District Attorney's Community Leader Appreciation Award, and The Church in The Round Men's Ministry Community Leader Appreciation Award. These merely highlight all of Shon's compliments and honors.

Shon was a dedicated and faithful member to Macedonia Church of Pittsburgh, under the leadership of Pastor Brian Edmonds. There he was part of the Man Cave Ministry, Blaze Ministry, Marriage Ministry and was a ministry leader. Shon was also previously a member of Union Baptist Church, Youngstown, OH where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Servant Leader of the Brotherhood Ministry, member of the Men of Valor Male Chorus and became a licensed Minister.

Shon touched the lives of so many people with his sense of humor, humility, kindness, love, and caring heart. He was always about people. Shon's love for the Lord and his faith was unwavering. And let's not forget his many Facebook posts of being drafted to the NFL and NBA. He always wanted to make people laugh and smile and he did just that.

Shon was preceded in death by his Grandmother Inell Lanier, Grandfather Russell Crumb, and nephew Tyshawn Durham.

Shon is survived by his loving wife Jikkiko of over 10 years; his mother Ms. Ada Bell Crumb, father Shelton Jones and loving step-father Gershon Humphries; 4 brothers Tyshon Tyson, Robert Hill, Vincent Harmon (Kimberly), and Jaquan Humphries all from Aliquippa, PA; 5 sisters Sebrenna Alston (Albert), Alanda Roach (John), Karen Owens, India Owens, Traci Humphries, and Staci Humphries; 5 children Shon Owens Jr., Tanesha Owens, Lashonna Owens, Nya Owens, and Seairra Barrett-Owens; 1 grandchild NaShaun Owens; 4 nephews Stephon, Devay, Tyquale, and Brandon; and 3 nieces Brooklyn, Teara, and Princess My'Halie. Shon has additional siblings, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, in whom he had a lot of pride and joy.

Shon will be laid to rest on Thursday, June 8th at 12:30pm at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, (Veteran Cemetery) in Bridgeville, PA.
