Rosa Mae Cameron Burks, 90, was peacefully called home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, in Bowie, MD. She was born in Americus, GA on October 30, 1931, to the late John and Clora Cameron. She was preceded in death by her five brothers: Ollie-OC, Carrie John-CJ, Amos, Amon-AC, and Bobby (Eva) Cameron. Rosa was married to the late John Lewis Burks for over 20 years and they were blessed with two children and a loving nephew, whom she raised as a son, James Burks, who preceded her in death.

Rosa accepted Jesus at an early age, and she and her family attended Old Corinth Church and New Pineville Church in Americus, GA. She graduated from Staley High School in Americus, GA and was a hard worker and always looked out for her family. Looking for a better opportunity, Rosa migrated to Aliquippa, PA in the early 1950s. After settling in PA, she returned to Americus, GA and assisted her mother and father and her brothers relocate to Aliquippa, PA. She attended Penn State Beaver where she received her LPN license and worked at Dixmont State Hospital for many years and took great care of her patients. After her nursing career, she became a manager in the fine jewelry department for Gimbles/Kaufmans/Macys Department stores until her retirement.

She was a member of Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church of Aliquippa, PA for over 60 years and was a member until her passing. She was in the senior choir and the Nursing board. She participated in the annual Easter Cantata. She was a member of the Modern Club that supported social action causes and provided scholarships for the youth. She was a member of the Quippian club and assisted in many fund-raising activities. Rosa took it upon herself to help clothe and feed the homeless. She always wanted to lend a helping hand. Family was very important to her. She was a member of the New Generation Club that was instrumental in planning the bi-yearly Cooper-Cameron family reunions. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends and visited many different places.

Rosa's children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. She spent countless hours taking her children to sports practices, Girls Scouts, and different activities. She enjoyed watching her son and daughter play football, baseball, softball, and their many different activities. She also received great joy in watching her grandchildren participate in different activities and play sports. She attended all their high school and college graduations. Some of her favorite past-times were completing word-search puzzles, talking on the phone to her friends, and watching the Family Feud. Rosa especially loved her beloved dog Lady that was a great companion to her. Because of the pandemic of 2020 and Rosa's beautiful and blessed age, she spent the last two years of her life residing with her son and daughter in Maryland. Her beloved Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church family always sent cards and called to check on her.

Rosa leaves to cherish her memory her son Ronald (Karen) Burks, her daughter Cinderae Burks, her daughter-in-law Linda Burks; three sisters-in-law Perlymae, Dorothy, and Barbara Cameron; a special cousin Doris Hightower; Ten grandchildren Chamennia (Funlola) Ogunleye, Rhea Sutherland, Bernard Thornton III, Ronald, Jr., Tra', Brandolyn, and Katherine Burks, Crystal Myers, Jarrett (Jessica) Burks, and Jalen Burks; Eleven great-grandchildren Jolaoluwa and Folasewa Ogunleye, Caleb, Brice, Akil, and Lael Sutherland, Bernard Thornton IV, Toure Burks, London Burks, and Antoine and Areaun Myers; very special friends Murdis Stovall, Annis Lay, Delores Baldwin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
