Ruby L. Virges

Ruby L. Virges, 91 of Erie, PA departed this earthly life on Friday, December 9, 2022. She was born July 4, 1931 in Houston, MS to the late William Buchanan and Ollie Chandler.

Ruby,  affectionately known as Mother Virges was a faithful and devoted member of Greater Bethlehem Temple Church for more than 50 years.

She retired from UPMC Hamot after 37 years of service as a Dietary Aide. She enjoyed thrifting and shopping altogether but her greatest passion was her family.

In addition to her parents she was preceeded in death by her husband Willie Virges,  4 sisters Lila Jane, Lilly D, Eular Mae, and Castherie; and 4 brothers Wille C., Albert, Billy Jo, and Tommy Lee.

She leaves to cherish her memory 3 sisters Hattie Pearl Barefield (Bakersfield, CA), Orlean McGory (Houston,MS), and Lucille Fisher (Bakersfield, CA); one daughter,  Marla Baker, one grand daughter,  KaMila Buchanan (Charlotte, NC); 3 great grandchildren Donnie Tatum (LaTerra Bailey), Da'Jha Tatum ( Inman, SC), and JaZyon Carson (Charlotte, NC); 5 Great-great grandchildren KaMari Tatum, Keion Paul, Milan Tatum, Eva Marie Tatum, and Kasih Tatum; her extended sons Danny Nicholson and Nathan Bradley (Butler, PA) and a host of Bonus Babies, friends, and extended family.

Friends may visit with the family at Greater Bethlehem Temple Church, 4103 Washington Street,  Erie, PA 16509 on Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., where a Celebration of Life service will immediately follow,  with Pastor Joyce Moses eulogizing.  Professional services are entrusted to Pitts Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Avenue, Erie, PA 16504.
