Mrs. Vennie Dorothy Rogers, age 102, passed away peacefully, at her residence in Erie, PA, on Tuesday, April 04, 2023. Vennie was born on April 21, 1920, in Person County, North Carolina to the late George and Cora Burton - Daye.

Vennie was born the sixth child out of nine children. Vennie moved from Person County, North Carolina to Erie, PA, at the age of 23, bringing her young son Alton with her, following the death of her first husband Percy Hamlett, and their infant son, Percy Jr. Upon arriving in Erie, PA Vennie started her new life with her new husband Norman John D. Rogers, from this union four children were born.

Vennie was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church for over 80 years. She served on the Deaconess Board and sang in the church choir.

She worked at Arco Cleaning Company for many years until retiring in 1989.

Vennie was a sweet, loving, kind, and strong women. Vennie enjoyed going to the John F. Kennedy Center everyday. She enjoyed traveling and shopping with The Golden Age Group. She also enjoyed singing, sewing, and cooking. Her baking extended far beyond regular meals. She baked a delicious peach cobbler. She loved to play her tambourine in the choir and also when she would be in the audience. Vennie worshipped the Lord Jesus Christ daily and truly loved Him with all her heart.

Vennie was honored to represent Second Baptist Church when she became Mrs. Second Baptist in 2008. Vennie continued going to church until she became ill in her early 90's.

Vennie loved to travel back home to North Carolina for their annual family reunion to fellowship with her loved ones.

Vennie was preceded in death by her parents: George and Cora Burton- Daye; her first husband: Percy Hamlett, Sr.; two sons: Percy Jr, and Alton Price Hamlett; second husband: Norman John D. Rogers; son: Jessie Rogers; daughter: Leaunia Rogers; four sisters: Maggie, LoRena, Selena, and Elizabeth; and three brothers: Lennie, Ike, and Rufus Daye.

Vennie leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Maxine Smith and Marie Rogers Byrd; one sister: Margie Moore of NC; grandchildren:  Dennis (Candence) Barnett of Flint, MI, Toni (Eric) Peterson of Dewitt, MI, Teri (the late Jerome) Nelson of Flint, MI, Yvonne (Edward) Milton of Sterling Heights, MI, Kevin Rogers of Erie, PA, LaRonda (Dion) Richardson of Flint, MI, Ella Heisner of Flint, MI, Andre's Jackson of Erie, PA, Carlos (Deanna)Jackson of Cleveland Heights, OH, Maya Jackson of Erie, PA, Clifford (Pat) Barnett of Roswell, GA-including the remaining children of Bernice Barnett; great-grandchildren: Ki'esha Lee, Jordan Barnett, Tiah Barnett, Koryona Peterson, Ashlee Milton, Azaria Milton, Kevin McDonald, Erica Veal, Michael McDonald, Cheniece Rogers, Andrea Henley, Marcus Rogers, Tevin Kalinowski, Alyah Carpenter, Braydon Kalinowski, Latarrel (Kimoya) Sanders, Jaquel (Mar'Kiya) Sanders, Christopher Sanders, Shawn Anthony Rivera, Deja Strub, Taleya Jackson, Andre's Jackson Jr, Layla Jackson, Kelis Jackson, Carlos Jackson Jr, Abrionna  Jackson, Donovan's Jackson, Jada Jackson, Lynajha White, Lynell White, Olivia White, Shara White, Kamel White; great-great-grandchildren: Kaniyah, Kharter, Kailynn, baby Derret, Khourtnie, Khlin, Kylee, Shaman, Dazariyah, Monty, Kevin III, Ava, Bradley, Madelyn, Georgia, Dillon, Layla, Amira, Mercy, Tykir Jackson, Telaisha Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives; three special friends: Mae Sherman, Ms. Woodard, Ms. Bertha, her Second Baptist Church family and friends.
