Waliydat Anna May Hakim, age 60 of Erie, passed away peacefully on Monday August 28, 2023 at LECOM Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She fought a long, courageous battle of breast and lung cancer.

Waliydat Anna May was born November 13, 1962 in Erie, Pa. to the late Abdul Nur Hakim, Sr. and June Marie Jaycox-Hakim. Anna May graduated from Technical Memorial High School in 1983. Once she finished high school, she attended some training and was employed at the Achievement Center, Federal Court House, and the Barber National Institute.

Waliydat Anna May was a beautiful and loving person. She was known for her hard work and her pleasant and kind disposition. Anna May was raised under the Muslim Faith. Later, she started attending Shiloh Baptist Church of Erie.

Waliydat Anna May enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved attending events in downtown Erie, the outdoors, bowling, Turner classic movies, and watching football. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Rev. Jerry W. Jaycox,, Sr. and Anna May Mayhew-Jaycox, two sisters Nuna Hakim and Mary Ann Hakim, and two brothers Abdul Nur Hakim Jr. and Amzi Hakim.

Anna May leaves to cherish her memories one sister Safaarah Patty (Warren) Hodges; one special sister Karana Doxey, one niece June Hodges; two great nieces Zyille Hodges and Jhnoveah Baby Ray Hodges; two great nephews Dimetris Mercy Francis and Jayceon McClendon; her special friend Pearl Tate; and a host of other relatives and friends.
